If only minorites were polled, an overwhelming majority would say they want healthcare reform, with health insurance assistance for all!! Now… the NHS is great, but should anything go SERIOUSLY wrong, well, I pay a premium for private medical insurance, something akin to the catastrophic cover discussed here. For 99% of my medical needs, the NHS is great.
Should I get cancer, I want the best, and I want it now, and for that I pay a little extra each month… it’s not required, it’s just an extra layer of comfort that I can afford, so I can take advantage of it.

Our NHS is incredible, that they do what they do with the resources they have is testament to the hard work of the professionals who run the service. That said, it has it’s flaws. We can wait days for an MRI, non-urgent care is second rate (I waited 4 months for an operation on some varicose veins) so the standard of care in the US is almost certainly higher… but if my daughter or I get sick, we can go see a doctor the same day, and get our drugs, whatever they may be, for an £8 fee..

No one is trying to push a public option or “govt run healthcare.” They are discussing (because Rep. and Dem. agree, as you would know if you had watched any of this, that regulations must be imposed) WHO -WILL- decide what regulations WILL be imposed on insurance companies. Republicans think that the current way of doing things, leaving it up to states to regulate, works fine. Democrats disagree and want to set Federal decency demands for insurance companies. Pay attention.
