Australia regrets having banned guns. And the evil people have then and impose their threats on the innocent people. IF the people had guns to defend themselves they wouldn’t be bullied by the evil ones.

Hey, isn’t the NRA’s motto and all purpose catch phrase, "You’ll have to pry my gun from my cold dead hand." ?

I noticed you came close to saying that, but not quite. I don’t know whether that means you aren’t committed to the NRA cause to the point of death, or that you realize how crazy that sounds.

Unless you are a law enforcement officer, a soldier, or a gun is your only way to obtain food to eat, you don’t need one. Surrender your guns! We’ll all be safer. Especially people who know you.

You have had a break with reality. Your fear rules you. Look at your additional comments in response to Ktikat. Obama denies his white heritage? There have to be dozens of loving tributes to his mother and his maternal grandparents who raised him all over the Internet. They were also featured in many of his campaign ads. They are in his bios. Newsflash for you: They are 100% "white."

See what I mean? You’re sounding so irrational. You are a poster child for stricter gun regulation. Please stay away from institutions of higher learning. In fact, why don’t you just stay in the house?

I will support any effort of Senator Obama to control guns—without guns we wouldn’t have so many murders happening in our country. Without guns around there would be less fear. Without guns people would be more willing to go out into the streets and take their neighborhoods back. There is a big difference in controlling guns or taking the right to ownership away. Controlling WHO gets gunownership is the sole purpose of gun control. And frankly, why does anyone need a gun? I can understand that police officers need them and that certain types of businesses own them, but when the guns get sold for 20 bucks on the streets to teens who belong to guns, then they need to be controlled. One has to observe both sides of the issue before making sound judgement. Our children don’t need to go to school in fear–they should be able to be as carefree and unhibited as I was when I was a child(I am 57, so that’s a while ago). Ask any mother who lost a child because of gun violence, ask any child who lost a parent to gun violence, ask any teacher who was subjected to gun violence, and then you will know that there has to be some good form of control. The framers of the constitution did not allow anyone to bear arms because they felt that it didn’t matter how it affected others. They wanted to make sure that citizen could protect themselves adequately when attacked by Indians or in the wilderness–and had our forefathers foreseen how the right to bear arms has gone out of control, I doubt very much that they would have given this privilege away so easily–because see, it’s a privilege. If you commit a felony, you can’t get one. As with any privilege, they can be taken away. The NRA is interested in doing business, and guns are good business–however, why do they have to have assault rifles? I personally witnessed how a 6 year old got shot by a 8 year old–a horrible accident—the problem is that this would not have happened were guns controlled!!

Obama has stood for gun control his entire life. Extreme gun control.

Yet, now, he says he’s for the 2nd Amendment.

This is a situation where Obama is trampling on the 1st Amendment in order to defend his disrespect for the 2nd Amendment.

Obama Supporters – doesn’t it scare you just a little that the Constitution means so little to this candidate?

FYI – Obama is pulling this Gestapo act in several states with the media. Check out Missouri. He is trying to scare the local radio stations and television stations into not running anti-Obama ads. He will be very sorry for this little stunt, I’m sure. The American people are not that stupid.

We are clinging to the Constitution, BHO – along with our guns and religion.

I think it’s a little weird that this seems to be on the top of your agenda. I have ambivalent feelings regarding the second amendment. The reason our forefathers wanted us to have the right to bear arms is because of the Revolutionary war. If England had prevented people in the New World from having guns, there would not have been any means with which to fight the government. We simply live in a different era with different pressures and different conditions regarding our ability to "fight" the government.

If you just want to talk about being able to own a gun, I don’t necessarily think the government should take this away, but even those who register their guns commit gruesome crimes with them. I don’t think you should be punished for their actions, but you must admit that taking away guns entirely could make for a safer social situation. However, I do also agree that people will acquire guns regardless of the law (like they did with alcohol during prohibition), which would mean that only criminals have guns…which is more frightening. So, like I said, I’m ambivalent.

But with the economy in shambles and a war in Iraq, I really don’t think the question of guns is wholly relevant. Especially since there isn’t actually any current legislation on the table to reverse gun rights, AND with the fact that the Supreme Court just upheld your right to own a gun. Don’t fret…you’ve still got quite a bit of time to shoot cans in your backyard.

EDIT: J&J, are you serious? Bush is the person most recently to propose amendments to the constitution that take rights away! Gun control is not the same as the abolition of a right. Furthermore the Constitution is a document, and documents are made to be changed (hence the 27 amendments). Way to simplify the issue.

EDIT 2: You’re ridiculous. I didn’t say anything about socialism or a world order. Why is it when people like you (Reps) are confronted with a reasoned argument, you can’t counter with one of your own? Instead you point to irrelevancies…I could just respond with "your mom" and be using the same debating tactic you just employed…c’mon

EDIT 3: Way to go…we don’t understand what it’ll do to America, and you seemingly can’t explain it…or just refuse to. At least I can admit I’m ambivalent…you just don’t know what you’re talking about.

This is one thing that worries me about my own party and about Obama. If we lose the right to own guns, we lose the right to defend our country from any "domestic" threat such as a President that will try to become a dictator. First they take your guns, then your country.. and you are defenseless against them. Isn't that what started the American Revolution? Seems like I read that somewhere.
